I believe it dates to the first half of the 20th century

3/4" inches wide by 5/8" tall

The ferrule (the wooden part to which the bristles are attached) is 4" wide and 1 1/2" deep

Opens fine and closes tightly. 2 1 4" long x 1 1 2" across.
